The Berndt Toast Gang

The Berndt Toast Gang is the Long Island Chapter of the National Cartoonists Society. The group was originally formed after World War II by "Smitty" creator Walter Berndt ( 1879-1979 ). Walter would take his cartoonists friends to the Veteran's Hospital in Northport New York to do caricatures of the patients. The group got it's official name after Walter died in 1979.
