WOMEN & COMICS: MULTI-TALENTED WRITER JEN BENKA

Sponsored by Friends of Lulu/New York

July 7,
7 - 8 p.m., FREE

Map to MoCCA >

MoCCA presents the latest event in the Lulu discussion series, featuring Jen Benka, who writes Manya, Xeric-winning serial graphic novel illustrated by Kris Dresen. Also a critically acclaimed poet, Benka has received grants from the Poetry/Film Workshop and was awarded a Poetry Fellowship from the Wisconsin Arts Board. The Manhattan resident has published poems and collages in So To Speak, Impetus, Off Our Backs and Ms. Magazine. Also, in A Revisioning of the Preamble of the Constitution of the United States, Benka wrote one poem for each of the 52 words in the nation's preamble to the Constitution in an effort to examine, expose, and rewrite the document one word at a time.

She'll speak about her experiences in the comic book business and how to make it into the industry yourself. There will be a lively question-and-answer period, so we'd love to see (and hear) you there! Just remember: It's on 7.7 at 7.
